We'll we had a theme Chanukah dinner party. It was kind of small but fun. Ima and I had to spend the day at the office. Actually I had a break in the day because Barry organized a luncheon meeting at the Bistro Grande Cafe. The guest speaker was R. Sli.fikin from Jerusalem who happens to teach at Lev H. He's the author of all those animal and science and Torah books including Mysterious Crea.tures etc.
He's been involved in a lot of controversy and many gedolim banned his books a number of years ago. Here's an article from the NY Times if you are interested. Click on the logo.
Anyway the lecture was very interesting. He spoke about a meeting he had today with R. Shlo.mo Mill.er (who was one of the people who was for the ban) for about 45 mins and they resolved some issues. Since the ban he has changed some of what he says in his books so there is no misunderstandings. He gave a novel approach of resolving the apparent contradictions between Torah and Science that I hadn't heard before.
Well a good time was had by all except for the fact that everything was covered with cheese and I'm lactose intolerant as everyone knows. However that was entirely hasgacha because little did I know what was cooking behind the scenes.
Things at the office were fairly uneventful except for two different calls from people in Belgium interested in our products.
After work Ima and I went to pick up Nana at home to bring her to our house for dinner. Miriam is off school and she and Esther Leah spent the day cleaning up the house and getting dinner ready. When we arrived home the Chanukiot were ready and the table was set! Yeah!
Sivan was so excited when we arrived that she gave Bubbie a big hug. She scooped her up and we quickly went to light the menorah. Sivan helped.
Here is a picture of the rest of us that Nana took. Take a careful look at Esther Leah's sweater.
But the really exciting thing about the evening was the theme ... Sushi!
Esther Leah spent the afternoon making it. It was amazing.Wow. At first I thought they had bought it because it looked so professional and I thought we were going to have to take out another mortgage on the house to pay for it, but nope, it was all home made! Yumm. She made California roles with avocado and carrots; mock crab; smoked salmon and the best was the mango.
I was almost tempted to set up a stand outside to sell to passersby but it was a little cold and there probably weren't too many people out. Kind of makes you wonder if we were even yotzei with the Chanukia. How can you be mefarsem (publicize the miracle if there's nobody to see it).
Well we can rely on the fact that there were a bunch of us warm and toasty inside.
Speaking of the Chanukiah consistent with our theme --- it was made out of SUSHI!!
Actually the Sushi menorah was my idea. Note the flames. They're made out of ginger slices.
The surprise was how much Sivan liked the Sushi.
And here's a video of Sivan eating the Sushi. Enjoy. We love you all and miss you.
And we wish a very special Happy Birthday to Eli.
