One of the first things Natan and I decided together was that when we moved to the new house, I was going to have a proper place to do my makeup. (As opposed to drawing a crooked line of eyeliner in between yelling at the babies to get out of my makeup kit. Yes, they know how to open it) Anyway, since there is absolutely no room in our bedroom for a vanity, and I wanted it to be high up enough to keep the babies away for at least another year, I opted on a 'floating shelf' and mirror from Ikea.
I picked up these candlesticks for half price at Ikea because they were supposed to be two different heights. I guess someone brought them back. Anyway I thought they would look good on the shelf:
Then I got Nachum to climb into my inlaw's attic to get this old bar stool from Ima and Abba's kitchen in Har Nof: (Remember these stools, everyone?)
We hung up the shelf and the mirror at the right height for the bar stool. Clearly though, with all those Kramer/Veffer genes, there was no way I was going to leave the stool looking like that. So I went and picked up some spray paint for 14 shekels (actually, I had to go back and buy another can) And Nana helped me pick out (and pay for!) some really awesome black fabric at the fabric stores on King George. We bargained the guy down because the fabric was already cut! Yay. After fixing up the stool I still had a ton of the material left over, and of COURSE I had to do something with it. So, out came those poor candlesticks and some wood glue...... and Tah Dah!!!
The finished stool:
The candles in progress:
The finished candles: (I'm SO PROUD OF MYSELF!)
Both together:
With the shelf and mirror. Now we just have to put of spotlights and paint the wall!!

Looks great! How clever. But I'm not surprised - you're so good at creative projects. I look forward to seeing other "enhancements". I hope you are settling in and enjoying your new home.
Thanks! I think it looks great too! It's so much fun doing all this stuff, that I almost feel bad buying anything 'ready to put up' because I feel like I should DO something to it first!! Stay tuned for the dark raspberry bathroom...
esther leah!!! its absalutly gorgeous!!! its stunning. k so can i hire you. or at least can you come over and inspire me. i would love to do stuff like that i just never know where to start. its really really beautiful!!

BRAVO!!!!!!!
Spectacular! The stool turned out incredibley well, the candlesticks a bonus.Keep those creative juices flowing!
Natan, love your comment. Always check out roadside trash for items to re-cycle, end tables, wicker stuff for outside furniture, doors with no glass for inserting mirror and marbelizing, etc.
Keep up the good work! Have FUN!
Love
Nana
ester leah, WOW! I'm so jealous. I wish I had inherited some of the creative Kramer gene. Well maybe I did, but I wouldn't know it, because I have such a busy schedule. I barely have time to wash the dishes!!! B"H in about 3 years from now (when I have my B.ed B"H) I hope I will have time to try out my artistic hand. I just hope I wont sew the sleeves to the body! (Ha-ha, remember?)
